About me
Sam Balto has taught physical education for over a decade in Washington, DC, Boston, and Portland, Oregon. For the past 12 years, he has championed active transportation to school as a way to increase student physical activity and strengthen school communities.
After leading walking school buses for nine years, Sam launched his first bike bus at Alameda Elementary in spring 2022. The weekly ride gained international attention and even helped bring conversations about children’s mobility to the White House. Notable guests, including Benson Boone, have joined his rides and Netflix came calling for a Stranger Things promo ride. Sam also co-founded Bike Bus World to support communities everywhere in starting bike buses, helping students lead more active lives.
